Solar Flare
A few notes about this:
- This was my first version of the deck. After playtesting, I found some issues and rebuilt it. I'm not going to post my current version of the deck, but I will share some of my notes about it.
- The mana is very screwy in this deck. I hate that marsh flats is gone. Double black for Lil, Double blue for Dissipate, double white for Sun T. Hard to pull off.
- Phantasmal Image rocks some of the time. Other times its not so good. On the other hand, if he is in the graveyard then hes always a good time as he plays well with Sun T.
- Dissipate was rarely castable.
- Black Sun Zenith came in handy a few times. Still iffy on it with the black double tho.
- Forbidden alchemy makes the deck work. Always run 4.
- Not enough kill conditions, even with them being recurring.
- Snapcaster is insane. Still think 3 is the right number. (in this deck)
- think twice is good, but probably not better than ponder.
- Sheoldred, Whispering One is for fun, probably could be any fatty you have (elesh norn comes to mind)
- Might be running too much removal.
Overall the deck runs smoothly when you dont run into mana bumps. Needs some tweaking as is but the Sun titan Liliana Combo works very well.

This is probly my inexperience coming through, but I really can't see this deck as a threat. Costs are really high for creatures and reanimation so it'd seem you'd get eaten by fast agro. Could you explain it a bit more. -- Jonathan
ReplyDeleteif you were to run into trouble with aggro most people who run it like me are already running two days in the main board and an extra in the sideboard for aggro. as well as the ratchet bombs in the side for protection against aggro.
ReplyDeletealso the deck doesnt need to run black sun's zenith since being double black the only thing that you need for wipe is doj since the mana base is typically better for it and zenith shuffles back in which is not what you want. you would much rather flash back the wipe with snapcaster if you had to. i also dont understand the dissipates i would much rather remove both of those for the fourth mana leak which is much better for the deck as well as an extra oring or doom blade. i would be more in favor of another gftt or a doomblade in exchange for the black sun. also i would say another liliana is in order since she makes this deck really viable again for standard
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments guys, you both have some good points. Id like to point out that this was a trial run of the deck and I have changed it quite a bit. The idea of the article was to show the start of building a deck, then after I playtested it, I took notes of what didn't work out (which you can see above). I don't wish to reveal my current build yet so I can surprize the people in my play group.
ReplyDeleteOverall, this deck is awesome once you get the ball rolling, and its one of the best control decks out there. That said, the mono red deck and the white blue blade decks seem more reliable in a tournament setting.
